Open space is vital. In open space we store our drinking water supplies, organise our food production, arm ourselves against water bombs, reverse the loss of biodiversity and find cooling, rest and relaxation. Yet open space in Flanders is noticeably disappearing. This has to change!

Architecture Workroom Brussels wrote this book on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Open Ruimte Platform (Open Space Platform). This is a shared thinking and working space where farmers, nature associations, water managers, companies, citizens and local and Flemish authorities work together to strengthen open space. Since then, a wave of projects has rolled across Flanders.

Open Ruimte Coalities draws on 179 small and large open space projects from the past decade, brings inspiring future stories and shows coalitions for open space the way to knowledge, cooperation and realisation.
