The Provincial Court on the Market Square in Bruges is a masterpiece of Flemish neo-Gothic architecture. For more than a century, the Provincial Court was the flagship of the province of West Flanders. The provincial council met here and official ceremonies and prestigious events took place. Despite its prominent location on the Markt, few people had any idea of what went on behind its impressive facade. This is now about to change. With the restoration and conversion of the Provincial Court, the formerly closed heritage has been transformed into an ‘open house’ where everyone is welcome.

This book looks back at the building's rich history. It tells the story of Louis Delacenserie and René Buyck, the architects of this neo-Gothic masterpiece, and offers an overview of the extraordinary events that took place here over the past century. The book also takes a look at the restoration and redevelopment led by architect Luc Van Severen, with innovative scenography by FELT architects.
